In one of Almaty's most character-rich neighborhoods, architecture studio NAAW has designed a boutique hotel that blends into the local context rather than standing apart. Rooted in the area’s cultural and architectural memory, the building uses local materials like Aktau shell limestone, features forms inspired by traditional Kazakh yurts, and integrates public space, coworking areas, and a rooftop orchard. With a focus on openness, craftsmanship, and connection to place, the project reimagines hospitality not as retreat, but as civic interaction – aiming to establish a new architectural language for the city that is neither Soviet nor Western, but uniquely Almaty.
